If you like action adventure with RPG elements, this is highly recommended. This game is similar to Legend of Zelda, Devil May Cry, Prince of Persia and God of War. You play as Death on a quest to save his brother, War. The game’s HD graphic is beautiful, and I sometimes find myself pausing in the middle of a game just to marvel at the gorgeous background.

The best things about this game are the puzzles and the various dungeon designs. Similar to Legend of Zelda, each dungeon requires the player to find a key that will unlock a special door in order to advance through. The paths to finding the keys are rigged with clever puzzles that will put your brains to work. There are all sorts of skills and weapons that you pick up on your quest that will help solve these puzzles.
The Wii U version lets you play on the gamepad without having to power on your TV. This provides a much more immersive gaming experience in my opinion. This game is simply hard to put down once you start playing. It has the look and feel of watching a well done animated feature – a feat that otherwise wouldn’t have been possible if not for the excellent voice acting and satisfying soundtrack in addition to the fairly obvious beautiful HD graphics. In addition, battles are fun and like the puzzles, require wit and strategy to figure out your enemies’ weaknesses before you can defeat them. A head-on battle is surely a suicide mission even when you’re fighting those weaker common enemies that spring up all over the field. You can’t just take them out by continuously mashing your y-button. You have to roll and evade out of their way when they’re ready to strike or when another one is coming at you from behind. This is one of the most effective strategies to minimize hits to your health meter. From time to time, you’ll also have to confront those larger than life bosses. This is when it becomes crucial to use your special skills and abilities such as conjuring Redemption to attack with your pistol, or using Deathgrip to fasten and pull yourself towards your enemies for a more damaging attack. The Reaper form is also one of the more powerful abilities where Death is transformed into THE Reaper who’s twice the hero’s size and probably ten times his strength.
This game is fantastic and extremely fast-paced. However, the negative things to comment on include the occasional in-game issues such as screen tearing and game freezes. Fortunately, the game autosaves often so these issues become minor and unlikely to take away from your gaming experience. If you can buy only one game for your new Wii U, this is the one to consider.
