Exclusive: Composer Jake Monaco Reveals the Music Behind DinoTrux Season 5

Jake Monaco is a multi-talented composer whose versatility has enabled him to work in a wide array of projects. His music was featured in Fox’s action comedy, Keeping Up With the Joneses starring Jon Hamm & Gal Gadot, and Fox Searchlight’s comedy Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie starring Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley. He is a creative force within the television world as well, especially in animation. He is also currently scoring three family-favorite animated series: Amazon’s The Stinky and Dirty Show, Warner Bros. Animation’s Be Cool Scooby Doo and Netflix’s Dinotrux.

Jake succeeds in a variety of genres due to the vast arsenal of instruments and sounds he employs. He has scored for genres including classroom comedy (Struck by Lightning), romantic drama (Kilimanjaro) and murder mystery (Out to Kill). Some other cool projects that stood out to us from Jake’s roster included Fox’s Let’s Be Cops, President Obama’s re-election film, The Road We’ve Traveled, narrated by Tom Hanks, and his work as an arranger and orchestrator on Pipera hit Pixar short that won an Oscar.

“Season 5 brings a whole new level of intensity to the series,” Jake shared with us. “There is a great Ocean’s 11 style montage in the third episode, where I had the opportunity to go a little more retro/funk with the score, which is definitely not in our normal sonic realm. The season culminates with the introduction of the Dreadtrux. This provided an exciting chance to incorporate an incredibly intense Carmina Burana style choir into the score, to the point where I actually had to pull it back a little in fear of sending children running from their living rooms.”
