Original StarCraft, Brood War Now Free with Patch 1.18

When Blizzard announced StarCraft Remastered a few weeks ago, company CEO Mike Morhaime also mentioned that the original StarCraft and Brood War would become free with the expansion’s next patch. Patch 1.18 launched today, and as promised, anyone can download the game at no charge directly through Blizzard.

The complete 1.18 patch notes and download links for the PC and Mac versions can be found on the official StarCraft website. Aside from the game becoming free, the patch mainly includes UI enhancements and improved compatibility with modern operating systems.

Making the seminal RTS free was a kind gesture from Blizzard, but after being on the market for nearly 20 years, people who were interested in the game probably have it already. Most PC gamers are likely waiting for StarCraft Remastered at this point, which will bring upgraded graphics and audio and a modern online infrastructure when it’s released this summer.
