Nintendo Discontinues NES Classic Edition in North America

If you were interested in the NES Classic Edition, I really hope you already have one.

In a statement to IGN, Nintendo revealed that the last shipment of the system will arrive in North America this month. This is sure to be frustrating for consumers, as it has been nearly impossible to find since it hit store shelves last November. Separate NES Classic controllers are also being discontinued. The company says it manufactured more units than it initially planned to, but it wasn’t nearly enough to meet the overwhelming demand.

One of the popular theories going around is that Nintendo is sunsetting the NES Classic Edition to put the focus on the Nintendo Switch’s Virtual Console, but the company has not announced any details for the service or when we will learn more about it.
