20th Century Fox’s upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, the sequel to this summer’s blockbuster X-Men: Days Of Future Past, has been meeting with a handful of young actors for the roles of Jean Grey and Cyclops. The Wrap reports that Chloe Moretz (Carrie), Elle Fanning (Maleficent) and Hailee Steinfeld (Romeo and Juliet) are some names dropped to play Jean Grey, while Ben Hardy (EastEnders), Charlie Rowe (Red Band Society) and Timothée Chalamet (Interstellar) are in contention to play Cyclops.
Inside sources claimed that director Bryan Singer has met with both Chloe Moretz and Elle Fanning over the past few weeks to discuss the role but it’s too soon to tell if there’s a shoo-in among the three actresses.
Sources caution that official test offers for the role of Jean Grey have not been made yet and not only are other up-and-comers still in the mix, but it’s unclear whether Fanning is even pursuing the high-profile role at this time.
The Wrap also reports that whoever plays the young Jean Grey is “expected to recur in future X-Men movies.” Famke Janssen played Jean Grey previously in five installments of the X-Men film series. Haley Ramm portrayed the same character in X-Men: The Last Stand. Cyclops, aka Scott Summers, has been portrayed by James Marsden in four installments of the series and by Tim Pocock in X-Men: Origins: Wolverine.
It’s been rumored that X-Men: Apocalypse will revolve around a love story between Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). Production is scheduled to begin next spring and will be set in the 1980’s.
X-Men: Apocalypse is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 27th, 2016.
